OnCare Wellness & Palliative Care

care1

People with a cancer diagnosis often express a need to balance the medical facets of their care with the psychological and emotional aspects, in order to better cope with the effects of the disease.

“Wellness is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”

– WHO

This definition has paved the way for the broader concept of wellness to be introduced into our approach to cancer care.

The result is a more holistic approach, which targets the body, mind and spirit to help ease and treat the impact of cancer in our lives. This encompasses the Physical, Social, Psychological and Spiritual dimensions of a patient’s life.

We are happy that our group activities at OnCare are re started from 4th April after a gap of 2 years. Unfortunately due to the Pandemic we had to stop group program’s but had continued to help patients on an individual basis.

Our First day of re starting our activities at OnCare was a great success. 20 patients enjoyed themselves doing Games Therapy & Yoga. Thereon we had our regular programmes as under
Yoga & Meditation, Art Based therapy, Occupational Therapy, Art & Craft, Nutritional Session, Group Counselling, Dance & Games Therapy.

We also started with new programs as under:

Animal Assisted Therapy: This therapy assisted involves the use of trained therapy dogs by a medical/human service professional to motivate and help a person learn or improve various skills and work on emotional and behavioural problems.

Therapy for Creative Art: These sessions are designed with art therapy which is the use of creative art-based tools like music, art, and craft, and meditation to build emotional awareness, encourage expression and identify coping mechanisms. The circle allows active participation, sharing of feelings, social integration, managing emotions, channeling energy, and achieving optimum synchronization between the body and the mind of caregivers and cancer patients.

We celebrated Indpendence on 15th August 2022. This special day was celebrated at OnCare with an again large number of Cancer patients participating in this festival. We kept the theme of this day as “FREEDOM. Freedom from Anger, depression, distress bitterness, etc. We started with drawings and games. The aim was to bring happiness to their daily life.

Likewise,we celebrated all other festivals with our patients who participated with great enthusiasm.

The nutritionist creates an individual diet chart based on the patients needs, educates the patients on what to avoid and even provides recipes with demonstration.

Group Activities:We provide various therapeutic activities to our patients and their caregivers:

 – Yoga: Yoga for cancer survivors and patients provides an internal anchor of calm. Many practicing yoga therapy have discovered an increased awareness of a great, internal stillness and sense of unity. They’ve found at the most fundamental level of their own consciousness, a sense of true health and vitality that spills over into other aspects of life.

For those undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, yoga for cancer provides a means to strengthen the body, boost the immune system, and produce a much-sought-after feeling of well-being. For those recovering from surgery, such as that for breast cancer, yoga can help restore motion and flexibility in a gentle, balanced manner.

Group Counselling sessions are also held once a week to allow the patients to meet others who share similar concerns.
