OUR ROOTS
A hard working, sincere and perseverant individual, Mr. Nariman K. Dhabhar lost his father at the early age of 16 and was raised singlehandedly by his mother, Cooverbai. After gaining his educational degree in accountancy, young Nariman went on to work as a Junior Partner at M/s B.P. Gharda & Co. Later, he joined Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Company Limited where he began his journey as an accountant and eventually worked his way up to being on the Board of Directors. During this time, he wrote a thesis on ‘Internal Audit and Management Control’, which is widely acclaimed and highly regarded in the Chartered Accountant circle.
On 15th April 2007 at the age of 82, Mr. Dhabhar succumbed to cancer of the pancreas.
He is survived by his daughters Ava and Kety and son, Dr. Boman Dhabhar, a renowned oncologist, who both recognised the disparity in the availability, accessibility and affordability of cancer care between the rich and those that are economically disadvantaged.
So, on 5th June 2011 they launched the N.K. Dhabhar Cancer Foundation in the memory of Mr. Nariman K. Dhabhar, in order to provide monetary assistance, clinical assistance and qualitative palliative care to patients, strengthen existing cancer treatment facilities and raise awareness on the prevention and early detection of cancer.
